10 years of Fac amie des arts, the exhibition of four poems from the collection 𝐻𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑡 𝑇ℎ𝑟𝑒𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑙𝑑 by Craig Santos Perez
from Thursday Sep 19, 2024 until Saturday Oct 19, 2024
Rez-de-chaussée du bâtiment B, UFR Lettres, UBO., 18h00
This translation project came about as part of a conference organised at the UBO in 2021 by Estelle Castro-Koshy (CRBC), Géraldine Le Roux (CRBC) and Jean-Marc Serme (HCTI), on the theme of ‘Indigenous environmental art practices as a response to pollution’.
Jean-Yves Le Disez (CRBC), head of the Master’s in Translation at the UBO, was asked to enable students to work on translating poems by the famous CHamoru poet from Guam, Craig Santos Perez.
Eight students (now UBO graduates⸱es) Sarah Bennour, Alexandre Descamps, Ludivine Gregoire, Thomas Méline, Célia Michenaud, Alfred O’Brien, Orlane Puchalski and Elise ROUÉ, volunteered to translate Habitat Threshold, under the guidance of Jean-Yves Le Disez and Estelle Castro-Koshy. Through online workshops, they worked together for two years to deliver an inventive translation that was faithful to the spirit of the collection.
The complete translation of the collection will be published in 2025 by Bruno Doucey, supported by the FADA of the Université de Bretagne Occidentale, and edited by Estelle Castro-Koshy and Jean-Yves Le Disez. Four poems translated by the eight students are previewed in this exhibition. The scenography was designed by Jean-Marc Serme.
