Recruiting senior researcher Dr. Arnaud Morvan

In November 2023, the OSPAPIK project hired Dr. Arnaud Morvan as senior researcher. Dr Morvan will lead a 2-year research focusing on historical and contemporary museum Australian indigenous objects that incorporate introduced materials such as metal, glass or plastic. Those hybrid objects encompass various ways of converting non-natural materials into new cultural forms, allowing them to capture a specific indigenous transformative aesthetics. The integration of these objects into local and global museum collections and keeping places provides recycled materials with cultural values, bringing new lights into the process of repurposing.
The research will document cross-cultural material encounters from the colonial and post-colonial periods and will contribute to study the diversity of contemporary indigenous curating. The research will take place in Australian and European museum collections in collaboration with local communities in 2024 and 2025.
